overview
Note: This program will not be accepting applications until further notice.
If you have a vision but don't know how to "reelize" it, this program could be for you. Do you have an idea for a film or television program, or do you want to learn more about the production process? The FilmFLEX program at BCIT will teach you the basics of production and post production using the latest in digital technology. You'll also learn about all the business aspects of the film industry - once you have your program completed, how do you market your vision?
FilmFLEX is a part-time "Flex" program. Flex programs at BCIT are designed for learning convenience, by offering the courses over half the week.
Total course load is 27 hours per week. The program is divided into 4 equal terms over 12 months, with short breaks between terms. Total program length is 52 weeks, with 48 weeks of instruction within that time. The fourth level includes a practicum and concentration on production of the final student project, plus an extensive business planning course. FilmFLEX is designed for those individuals who have a demonstrated interest in film, television and/or digital post production, and who want to work in a self-directed environment.
FilmFLEX is an innovative program, one of the first of its kind in Canada. The curriculum is presented in a hands-on, interactive format that stresses "learning by doing", led by industry professionals. It focuses on technical training plus business skills. Graduates of the program will have completed a "calling card video" by the end of the program, which they can use to open doors in the film and television industry.
Further information about the FilmFLEX mandate is available at http://www.filmflex.ca

Please see the Fees, Payments and Refunds section of the website for more information on full-time tuition fees. The technology fee is included with the program, which allows the student individualized use - and eventual ownership - of a "Digital Toolkit". When the program is completed by the student and total program fees are paid in full, ownership of the equipment package is transferred to the student.
Information on total program fees is located at http://www.bcit.ca/admission/fees
International students fees are located at http://www.bcit.ca/admission/fees/international.shtml
A non-refundable $2,500.00 deposit is payable upon acceptance into the program. The payment of the deposit is required to secure a guaranteed seat in the program. Students that have been accepted but have not paid a deposit are in a "hold" position.
Subject to change. Note: The SA Health and Dental plan fee is refundable only upon proof that the student has existing Extended Health and/or Dental coverage.
Books and supplies
$1,000 (general estimated cost, and subject to change)
Each student is required to pay a $250 refundable deposit for "additional" computer programs that are supplied by FilmFLEX for student computers, beyond those that comprise the student equipment package. At the conclusion of the course, after "additional" FilmFLEX programs are un-installed and verified, the student will receive a $250 refund.
Students are responsible for obtaining and maintaining insurance coverage for the equipment package while the equipment is in their possession. Insurance must be obtained prior to the first day of class and proof of coverage must be presented before equipment is released. Contact Program Head to obtain a current list of equipment.
Financial assistance
Students accepted into the FilmFLEX program may qualify for financial assistance that is available through the Government of B.C.'s student financial aid program (note that maximum loan amounts are less than the program tuition). For more information and to apply for this financial assistance, students should contact the BCIT Student Financial Aid and Awards Office. Please note that the $11,500 technology fee is NOT eligible for Financial Aid.

- Tuition/Technology Fee: Complete refund of tuition/technology fee paid to date less $2,500 (commitment fee)
- Student Activity: Complete refund
There will normally be no refund of tuition for students who withdraw after fourteen (14) calendar days from the start of classes for level 1 and any request for a Student Activity fee refund after this date must be submitted in writing to the BCIT Student Association Office.
Students registered in FilmFLEX level 3 and 4 who withdraw up to fourteen (14) calendar days after the start of classes will be entitled to receive:
- Tuition/Technology Fee: Complete refund of tuition/technology fee paid for level 3 and 4 less $2,500 (commitment fee)

In any case whatsoever, if a student withdraws from the FilmFLEX program and/or receives a Tuition/Technology refund, thus failing to complete the Program, the student will be deemed not to have paid the Technology fee, and all rights and benefits derived from said fee revert irrevocably to BCIT. Cancellation Policy
This program is subject to limited and a minimum enrollment. Lack of sufficient enrollment will result in BCIT canceling specific intakes of the program and will then entitle all accepted students, of that specific intake, to a full refund of all fees paid.
