Communication 2 for Interior Design
COMM 2320 is an applied course building on the skills learned in COMM 1120. The course will enable you to develop the persuasive writing and the presentation skills you will need to succeed in your program and at work. Prerequisites: Students must have one of the following: 1) a grade of 70% or better in COMM 1103 or COMM 1106 or COMM 1120; or 2) a BCIT full-time diploma program level 1 or level 2 COMM course credit with a grade of 70% or better. If you have BCIT full-time diploma program COMM course credit, email cecomm@bcit.ca to apply for approval to register.

Graphic Presentation 2
This course will allow students to explore freehand sketching with an emphasis on 3D creative visualization to develop the student's ability to use perspective sketching as a communication tool in design. The course will require students to do quick sketches and study assignments in monochromatic rendering techniques. Space Planning / Studio C
The emphasis of the course will be on creating distinctive design concepts and on doing functional, imaginative planning. Detailed space plans for offices and retail spaces will be examined. Students will develop office plans that will incorporate their new knowledge of systems design, furniture for offices and other functional issues. Producing working drawings and associated budgets will be the main task of this course. Prerequisites: 65% in INTD 3330 and 65% in INTD 3350 and 65% in INTD 4320* (*may be taken concurrently as a co-requisite)

Materials 2 and Environmental Factors
The course will examine the interior environment as it relates to human physical and psychological needs. The course of study will include ergonomics, anthropometrics and issues of physical comfort and environmental concerns as related to commercial and residential design. Environmental factors and LEED will be particularly emphasized. Prerequisites: INTD 3350 (65%)

Lighting 1
This course teaches creative, detailed lighting design solutions for residential and commercial spaces. Emphasis will be on concepts for lighting, practical applications, specifications and means to manipulate the human perception of space with light. 3D Computer Rendering for Interior Design
This course will introduce students to 3D drawing using AutoCAD, and to rendering using Accurender. With these programs, students will draw furniture, spaces in isometric and perspective views, and walk-through simulations of created spaces. Prerequisites: Entrance Requirements

Design Theory and Research
This course will comprise the study, exploration, and application of design theories and processes in creating the built environment. Students will explore such topics as social issues and adaptive reuse and will be expected to make research presentations, do in-class assignments and to work on team projects to create 2D and 3D drawings and models. Design Projects
Students will develop a design project from concept to drawing. They will create a visual/concept board illustrating their design ideas; select materials, finishes and furnishings; prepare a complete set of interior construction drawings; and build a scale model of their project. They will also document their conceptual design process in a sketchbook. Prerequisites: 65% in INTD 4310 and 65% in INTD 3300 and 65% in INTD 4330 and 65% in INTD 3310 and 65% in INTD 3110 and 65% in INTD 4350* and 65% in JOIN 4350* (* may be taken concurrently)

Interior Construction and Renovation
This course provides students with a fundamental understanding of both residential wood frame construction and commercial steel stud construction. AutoCAD for Interior Design 3
Students will use their previous AutoCAD training to complete a set of working drawings. Customization of AutoCAD software will be explored. Students will also learn to measure spaces to conform to B.O.M.A. standards. Prerequisites: Entrance Requirements (3 Credits).

Lighting 2
This course is a continuation of the study of lighting principles and practices that was begun in INTD 3330, Lighting 1. Project Management
Students become familiarized with the necessary steps involved in implementing a project once the space planning, design and construction drawing stages are complete. Millwork Drawing and Furniture Design
The focus of the course will be on designing and detailing built-in furniture, with an emphasis on furniture for commercial spaces. Students will have an opportunity to interact with professional cabinetmakers. Course material is enhanced with hands-on experience in millworking through JOIN 4350, which is recommended to be taken at the same time. Prerequisites: INTD 4310 (65%) and JOIN 4350 (65%)* (*should be taken concurrently as a co-requisite)

Building Codes and Barrier Free for Interior Design
The student will learn about the basic building and fire codes that cover small residential and commercial spaces as it relates to interior designers. Prerequisites: 65% in INTD 4310

Marketing and Practicum
In this course, students will prepare for entry into the workforce by researching firms and interviewing prospective employers. Students with a 75% minimum in all prerequisite Level 3 and Level 4 courses, and a 75% in COMM 2320 will be placed in an office for work-study. Students may be required to participate in work experience activities at the industry sponsor's regular place of business. Those who do not qualify for a work placement will do a research paper. Prerequisites: 65% in Level 3 and 4 courses, except INTD 4360 and INTD 4380 which may be taken concurrently.

This course covers the basics of Autodesk Revit in an architectural environment, from design through construction documentation.
