This course introduces students to drawing as a means of visual communication. Developing freehand drawing skills for interior design applications is the focus of the program.

Students will be introduced to manual architectural drafting as it pertains to interior design, beginning with equipment awareness, technical vocabulary and lettering skills. Student will produce multi-view drawings orthographically of objects and furniture using accurate scale, dimensions, notes and layout information. Students will also be introduced to the production of presentation-style floor plans, elevations and sections of the built environment. Prerequisites: INTD 1350* (* may be taken concurrently)

This course introduces the student to the basic theories, processes and vocabulary of interior design. The focus of the course is on concept development, on the design process and on the elements and principles of design. Students will create a journal/sketchbook and participate in class discussions.

(Fomerly called History of Furniture) This course will cover the history of design from ancient Egypt to the Glasgow Style of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Illustrated lectures, discussions, class projects, and assignments will introduce the students to various periods and styles of design in Western Civilization. Architecture, and various art forms will be discussed, with the emphasis being on the history of furniture. Prerequisites: COMM 1120 and 65% in INTD 1100

Using the current release of AutoCAD for the PC, students will become familiar with and use the drawing, editing and view manipulation commands of the program. They will also be introduced to blocks, dimensioning and text commands. The students will complete a two- dimensional floor plan showing dimensions, a furniture layout and elevations. Overall emphasis will be on using AutoCAD for designing a residential project. Prerequisites: 65% in INTD 1145

Provides student with colour theory, practical work and characteristics of lamps including practical application implementing reflected ceiling plans. Prerequisites: INTD 1350

Students will create two and three dimensional presentation style drawings mechanically and freehand. Three-dimensional techniques to produce one and two point perspective and praline drawings will be covered. Students will create a presentation package, which will include floor plans and elevation with 3D components. Prerequisites: 65% in INTD 1245

Introduces students to the factors considered and methodology used by interior designers in planning residential spaces. Students will analyse existing floor plans, learn furniture placement, plan a kitchen layout, and develop an apartment and house plan. Prerequisites: COMM 1120 and 65% in INTD 1145 and 65% in INTD 1310 and 65% in INTD 1245* (* may be taken concurrently)

This course will further examine the space planning process and will deal with commercial spaces. Prerequisites: INTD 1330 and 65% in INTD 1350 and 65% in INTD 1345 and 65% in INTD 1310 and 65% in INTD 2300

Students will create colour presentation drawings of interior spaces and furniture. They will use markers in combination will other mediums to render plans, elevations and perspectives drawings. Prerequisites: 65% in INTD 1100 and 65% in INTD 1310 and 65% in INTD 1145

Students will be introduced to materials used for interior construction, custom furnishing and decor. Students will prepare working drawings for built-in cabinets, freestanding custom furniture and interior detailing. Emphasis will be on residential interiors and on presenting working drawings for construction (as part of a set of drawings). Prerequisites: 65% in AICO 1160 and 65% in INTD 1245

This course will cover interior finishing specifications, characteristics of fabrics and of other materials for floors, walls, ceilings and windows. Environmental issues will be stressed, including LEED. Students will be introduced to local suppliers and manufacturers through guest lectures and field trips. Prerequisites: INTD 1350

Presents information on basic business and marketing practices. Topics include portfolios, presentations, resumes, contracts and interviews relating to interior design. Prerequisite: INTD 2300 (65%).

Students will complete a total package for a small design project. Prerequisite: All 1000 and 2000 series courses with a minimum of 65% in each course (except COMM 1120, INTD 1360, INTD 2335, and INTD 2340). INTD 2330 may be taken concurrently otherwise must be completed before INTD 2380.
