Full-time Diploma of Technology 6160fdiplt

Overview

The Diploma of Technology in Interior Design is offered in a full-time and a part-time format. Entry into the Diploma of Technology program of studies is possible only after the successful completion of the Management Certificate in Interior Design and the Bridging Courses.

The Diploma of Technology is for those students who seek a strong academic foundation and an efficient means of entry into the interior design industry. The program provides students with a course of study that emphasizes the technical information and skill required to obtain work in interior design and related fields. It meets industry standards and the academic criteria for professional membership in the Interior Design Institute of British Columbia.* Graduates are eligible to write the NCIDQ exam upon completion of the required work experience.

* Please note: Due to recent changes in minimum education requirements by the Interior Designers Institute of BC (IDIBC), BCIT's Diploma graduates are eligible to become professional members of IDIBC if they graduate before January 1, 2015. We are currently looking at options for our program to accommodate this change. We have a Q & A available to answer your questions. Please contact Interior_Design@bcit.ca for more information.

The Program

The Diploma of Technology is equivalent to Year Two of a traditional diploma program and delivers Level 3 and Level 4 courses in a comprehensive one-year format. Students develop the skills required to research and process information in the interior design field, and use up-to-date computer technology commonly employed in the field. They learn from industry-based faculty and develop extensive practical skills for rewarding careers.

Students follow a fixed curriculum of common courses that includes lectures and practical applications. During Level 4, there is an opportunity for a brief industry-based work practicum. Eligible students will be placed in a professional office and may be required to participate in work experience activities at the industry sponsor's regular place of business.
