BCIT Financial Analyst Advanced Certificate

The BCIT Financial Analyst program is designed to teach students the fundamentals required to prepare to write the CFA examination. Concentrating on the relevant CFA Program subject areas, students are prepared to move into the examination specific material provided by CFA. Students are advised to gain relevant work experience before attempting the CFA exam.

This program consists of courses in financial statement analysis and economics before concentrating on specific financial analyst topics. The remaining courses consist of seven intermediate and advanced courses specifically designed around the professional designation requirements, including ethics, advanced financial statement analysis, fixed income and equity analysis, derivatives, and portfolio management.

Program Entry

Application processing

This is a continual intake program with applications processed throughout the year.

Entrance requirements

Applicants must meet all entrance requirements to be accepted.

  • English: two years of education in English in an English-speaking country with one of the following:
    • English 12 (67%) or
    • Three credits of post-secondary English, Humanities or Social Sciences (67%) from a recognized institution

    What if I don’t meet these English requirements?

  • Post-secondary education: one of the following from a recognized institution:
    • Diploma
    • Degree

Applicants who have completed post-secondary studies outside of Canada, United States, the United Kingdom, Australia or New Zealand will require a comprehensive evaluation of their credentials by the International Credential Evaluation Service (ICES).

Recommended for success

It is highly recommended that applicants have had some exposure to, or have a general understanding of, introductory accounting, micro and macroeconomics, and business statistics, as these are core building blocks of this program.

Within 2 business days of submitting your completed application, BCIT will send a message to your personal e-mail and your myBCIT e-mail address. All correspondence about your application will be posted to your online myCommunication account at my.bcit.ca. We'll send you an email when a new message is posted. It's important to watch for these emails, or regularly check your account online.

You can expect to receive communication concerning the status of your application within 4 weeks.

Program Details

Program length

Financial Analyst is a flexible, part-time studies program. You can expect to complete the advanced certificate in approximately two years, depending on your work schedule. All program requirements must be completed within seven years.

Grading

50% pass in prerequisite courses unless otherwise indicated on the course outlines.

Graduating & Jobs

Apply for graduation

Upon successful completion of all program requirements, complete an Application for BCIT Credential [PDF] and submit to Student Information and Enrolment Services.

Allow approximately six to eight weeks for processing.

All financial obligations to the Institute must be met prior to issuance of any credential.
