BCIT Financial Analyst Advanced Specialty Certificate

The BCIT Financial Analyst program is designed to prepare students for part of the most preeminent professional chartered financial analyst designation exams. Concentrating on the relevant CFA Program body of knowledge, students are prepared for future professional exams. Students are advised to gain relevant work experience before attempting the final level exam.

This program consists of preparation courses in financial statement analysis and economics before concentrating on specific financial analyst topics. Business degree or diploma holders may be exempt from these courses. The remaining courses consist of seven intermediate and advanced courses specifically designed around the professional designation requirements, including ethics, advanced financial statement analysis, fixed income and equity analysis, derivatives, and portfolio management.

This program will be held on weekends and completed in one year. Disclaimer: Although this program includes extensive coverage of the preeminent chartered professional financial analyst body of knowledge, students are responsible for their own success on the professional exams.

Program Entry

Entrance requirements

  • Diploma or Degree in any discipline

Note: It is highly recommended that applicants have had some exposure to, or have a general understanding of, introductory accounting, micro and macro economics, and business statistics, as these are core building blocks of this program.

Applicants may want to consider taking these courses before applying to the program in order to upgrade their knowledge of these subjects.

Note: English language proficiency at an English 12 (C+) level is required for Category B applicants.

Applicants who completed post-secondary studies outside of Canada, United States or England will require a comprehensive evaluation of their credentials by the International Credential Evaluation Service (ICES).

BC provincial exams

Provincial exam marks are required for English 12, Communications 12, and Technical and Professional Communications 12. BCIT does not require provincial exams for Grade 12 Math and Science courses.

Within 2 to 3 weeks of applying to a program, you will be sent a letter in the mail confirming receipt of your application. The letter will identify your student number, BCIT e-mail address and instructions on how to login to your myBCIT account.

You can expect to receive communication concerning the status of your application within 2 to 8 weeks.

Apply for graduation

Upon successful completion of all program requirements, complete an Application for BCIT Credential [PDF] and submit to Student Information and Enrolment Services.

Allow approximately six to eight weeks for processing.

All financial obligations to the Institute must be met prior to issuance of any credential.
