Part-time 5025nobcit

Overview

BCIT offers comprehensive training in Nondestructive Testing (NDT) methods within the School of Energy on a part-time studies basis (in week long or for some methods two week long daytime formats). All of the Nondestructive Testing courses are designed to meet the recommended training course guidelines of the Canadian Government Specifications Board (CGSB).

The Program

Courses will benefit students currently working in their chosen field who plan to fulfill the training portion of certification with the CGSB. The courses will also benefit students who plan to gain knowledge prior to entering the field of Nondestructive Testing (NDT).

Courses require that students have basic mathematical skills and some prior knowledge of materials and processes. Mathematical knowledge required includes how to use a calculator, manipulate formulae, and solve problems using trigonometry exponential functions. Please see online listings for MATH and ACES courses for suitable upgrading courses.

Areas of study in Nondestructive Testing (NDT) at BCIT include:

  • Materials and Processes
  • Ultrasonics Level 1
  • Ultrasonics Level 2
  • Liquid Penetrant Inspection Levels 1 & 2
  • Magnetic Particle Inspection Levels 1 & 2
  • Exposure Device Operator Training

BCIT is also approved by National Resources Canada as a testing facility for the following methods in Nondestructive Testing (NDT) for both written and practical exams:

Method Exam Type
Ultrasonics (UT) Written and Practical
Liquid Penetrant (LP) Written and Practical
Magnetic Particle Written and Practical
Eddy Current
Written only
Exposure Device Operator Written only
X-Ray Florescence Operator Written only
