BCIT Marine Campus does not currently offer a program for students preparing for the Transport Canada examinations leading to the Master Mariner Certificate of Competency.

Entrance requirements

Master Intermediate Certificate of Competency.

BC provincial exams

Provincial exam marks are required for English 12, Communications 12, and Technical and Professional Communications 12. BCIT does not require applicants to write provincial exams for Grade 12 Math and Science courses.

Program Details

Sea service requirements

Twelve months in charge of the watch while holding a Master Intermediate Certificate of Competency.

Facilities are available for self study for the 093 Ship Management, 023 Electronics, and the 163 General Seamanship examinations. Qualified candidates should contact the Chief Instructor at 604-453-4100 for more information.

Applicants for the final Transport Canada examination leading to the Master Mariner certificate will be required to demonstrate they meet all prerequisites for this certificate. For detailed information on the certificate requirements contact the nearest Transport Canada Marine Safety office or visit their web site at www.tc.gc.ca/marine.
