Overview

Note: This program has been restructured to Heavy Mechanical Trades Foundation and has been relocated to the new Annacis Island Campus. Admissions will be contacting all applicants that are currently on the waitlist. Diesel Engine Technician Foundation will continue to be offered in a high school setting in Kelowna.

Diesel engine technicians and mechanics install, repair, maintain, and rebuild all internal combustion diesel engines and components used in transport, construction and marine.

The Program

This 30 week entry-level program provides you with the theoretical understanding and practical skills needed to become proficient in basic diesel engine maintenance and overhaul procedures. You will learn to disassemble, rebuild and reassemble diesel engines; replace working parts; rebuild engine blocks and components; and repair fuel, electrical and engine support systems.

Upon successful completion, you will also be awarded an SD/CB Lift-Truck Operator Certificate valid for two years and an ITA Certificate of Completion (Diesel Engine Mechanic Foundation Program).

Job Opportunities

This entry-level training prepares you for employment as a diesel engine technician in manufacturing, mining, logging, transportation and construction companies. Graduates of this program are strongly encouraged to seek formal apprenticeships in the industry.
