Diesel engine technicians and mechanics install, repair, maintain, and rebuild all internal combustion diesel engines and components used in transport, construction and marine.
This 30 week entry-level program provides you with the theoretical understanding and practical skills needed to become proficient in basic diesel engine maintenance and overhaul procedures. You will learn to disassemble, rebuild and reassemble diesel engines; replace working parts; rebuild engine blocks and components; and repair fuel, electrical and engine support systems.
Upon successful completion, you will also be awarded an SD/CB Lift-Truck Operator Certificate valid for two years and an ITA Certificate of Completion (Diesel Engine Mechanic Foundation Program).
Do you have credits from another BC/Yukon post-secondary school? Do you want to know if they transfer to courses here at BCIT? Check out BCIT's Transfer Equivalency Database to find out.
This entry-level training prepares you for employment as a diesel engine technician in manufacturing, mining, logging, transportation and construction companies. Graduates of this program are strongly encouraged to seek formal apprenticeships in the industry.
