Toyota Foundation Full-time Certificate of Trades Training 1375ttcert

Overview

Automotive technicians repair and test motor vehicles. They disassemble, inspect and assemble engines and accessories, cooling systems, transmissions and clutches, drivelines, braking and suspension systems. Automotive technicians employ logic and deductive reasoning in diagnosing and troubleshooting mechanical as well as electrical/electronic vehicle systems. BCIT School of Transportation has collaborated with the Toyota Dealers of British Columbia to provide Toyota sponsored training. In addition to receiving the Provincial curriculum, you will receive training, exposure and focus on Toyota products.

The Program

This entry level program provides you with the basic knowledge and practical skills needed for entry into the automotive industry. As a graduate, you may pursue a career as a general repair technician or choose to specialize in one of the many varied career paths that have emerged within the industry. Toyota Dealer sponsorships also provide a two week work practicum within this program providing you the opportunity to network within the Toyota system.

You will also receive credit for your first level of apprentice technical training from the Industry Training Authority (ITA) and 450 hours credit towards your time in trade. At the successful completion of this program, you will be scheduled to write the Provincial Level 1 apprenticeship exam.

Graduating & Jobs

Job Opportunities

Throughout British Columbia and Canada, there is a serious shortage of skilled and certified automotive technicians who are specialized in Asian vehicles. As a result, independent Toyota dealers are seeking trained apprentices. Job placement prospects are currently good and there is high probability that you will have a job waiting for you when you graduate.

Salaries
The median salary for our graduates is in the range of $2,000 per month. Graduates who go on to complete their apprenticeship training may earn approximately $50,000 per year. Graduates can aspire to top industry positions with salaries in the $60,000-plus range per year.

Graduate employment outcomes

The following link takes you to graduate outcome survey results containing mostly labour market results from the 2009-2011 BCIT Outcomes Surveys of 2008-2010 Graduates.
