BCIT WordPress Developer Statement of Completion

New program start date TBA.

The WordPress Developer (WPD) Statement of Completion will build on your existing knowledge of HTML/CSS, JavaScript, PHP and WordPress to advance your skills in WordPress development. You will learn how to apply WordPress to complex web site designs, and how to develop complete custom themes and apply them to a WordPress web site.

This part-time, 90 hour course will be taught by experienced WordPress developers (see instructor bios) who utilize best practices in their WordPress projects. During the course, you will learn how to develop WordPress sites that handle inventory management, product management, and shipping for online stores. Additional topics include building an e-Commerce store, general WordPress security, and performance and installation best practices.

By the end of the WordPress Developer Statement of Completion, you will be able to:

  • Develop a custom WordPress theme from scratch using HTML/CSS/JS and PHP
  • Build a fully functional e-Commerce online store using WordPress
  • Create custom WordPress plugins
  • Apply existing WordPress plugins to a WordPress website
  • Use caching to improve WordPress website performance
  • Utilize industry best practices to create secure WordPress installations

Prospective students applying to the WordPress Developer course should have a strong foundation in HTML/CSS along with a basic knowledge of JavaScript/iQuery and PHP.

This is an intermediate level course and prospective students should already be familiar with the basics of WordPress. This includes installing WordPress and a good familiarity with the WordPress administrative area.  Instructors will start the program with the assumption that students have an introductory knowledge of WordPress, build on this, and teach intermediate and advanced level WordPress techniques.
