Advanced Sports Media Performance

This group of four courses builds on your skills developed in the previous level, enhancing your ability to research, perform, and distribute a compelling sports story.

You’ll learn the key elements of investigative reporting, enabling you to dig deeper into the stories and issues you care about. To push the professionalism of your performance further, you’ll discover high-level vocal and personal performance skills and you’ll learn how to take those skills into the workforce and onto set. You’ll also develop personal branding skills and learn how to get your creative message out more successfully through all forms of social media.

What grads can do

This set of courses has been developed by working industry professionals specifically to give you more advanced professional development for your current position or to enhance your own personal projects. By further sharpening your presentation and production skills for sportscasts, you’ll be helping advance your career in sports journalism, and you might also use this program as an opportunity to explore a new area before moving on to additional training such as earning a diploma in Radio Arts and Entertainment.

About Part-time Studies

Take a single course, or work towards a credential — all at a pace that's right for you.

Part-time courses are offered in a variety of scheduling formats, including at night or on weekends, flexible day time delivery, or you can opt for distance or online learning. If you meet the prerequisites and there's space available, you can register for a course immediately. Courses are offered in each of three terms: Fall (September), Winter (January) and Spring/Summer (April).

To be successful in BCIT's fast paced applied learning environment, it is strongly recommended that students have English proficiency in all four language skills: reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Two years of education in English in an English-speaking country and English 12 are strongly recommended for success. For information on English equivalencies, testing and upgrading options, visit:
Formal application to the Statement of Completion is not required. Upon successful completion of the courses, email the Program Contact with your full name, student number, and mailing address to be issued a Statement of Completion.

In this more advanced set of courses, you’ll get more in-depth training with some essential elements of professional sportscasting and journalism. With a focus on practical skills, you’ll study topics like starting your entertainment career, building an effective social media presence, effective vocals and movement, and more.

Building upon the basic foundations in the Sports Media Performance Statement of Completion, this advanced set of courses takes your journalism and production game to the next level.

By working with industry professionals for hands-on training, you’ll be earning the most current skills you need to be effective in your career or for more professional personal projects.

Through the Advanced Sports Media Performance program, you’ll learn to:
