As students preparing to enter Technology programs at BCIT, you can look forward to a rewarding but demanding two years of study followed by a prosperous and challenging career. The goal of this course is to prepare you for success at BCIT: to give you the writing, reading, speaking, and listening skills you will need to enter a full-time program at BCIT. Technology Entry [TE] students who pass COMM 0007 with at least 70% meet BCIT’s minimum oral language skill requirement. TE students continuing to follow up programs that require higher oral language requirements need to complete appropriate oral language assessments prior to that program’s acceptance.

As part of the Technology Entry program, this course provides additional tutorial support to strengthen communication skills covered in COMM 0007. The course covers topics in communication which are challenging to "English as an additional language" students, as well as those with weaker English language skills. Topics include identifying reader and purpose, putting the main idea first, using appropriate tone, revising/editing skills, and giving oral reports. This course must be taken concurrently with COMM 0007, Introductory Communication for Technology Entry.

The course covers those topics in technical mathematics which are important for success in BCIT Engineering and Health programs with Mathematics 12 as a prerequisite. Topics include algebraic operations, simple equations, ratios, basic geometry, quadratic equations, logarithms, graphs, linear equations and trigonometry. Meets Principles of Math 12 or Pre-Calculus 12 requirements for BCIT Engineering Technology, Health Science or Computer Systems Technology programs. This course is equivalent to MATH 0001 which is offered through Part-time Studies.

As part of the Technology Entry program, this course provides additional tutorial support to strengthen core mathematics used in Math 0005 and technical mathematics courses. Topics include algebraic operations, simple equations, ratios, basic geometry, quadratic equations, logarithms, graphs, linear equations and trigonometry. Math 0014 is taken concurrently with MATH 0005 - Introduction to Technical Mathematics. Prerequisites: MATH 0005* (* may be taken concurrently)

This course uses computer lab time and online learning (utilizing task-oriented assessment software) to give students an understanding of basic computer terminology, hardware components and software applications used in their technology. Practical exercises using the Microsoft Office Suite focus on file management, word-processing, spreadsheets, presentations, and World Wide Web access.

Study skills and learning techniques are aspects that can be transferred to your future career. You will have the opportunity to assess your learning style and be introduced to strategies through practice (e.g. time management, exam preparation, note-taking, reading) that will aid you in your studies. A discussion of student success will include topics such as responsibilities in the classroom and student professionalism

This is an introductory chemistry course at the grade 11 level. The topics covered are: atomic structure, the periodic table, bonding, formula writing and nomenclature, balancing equations and stoichiometry, solutions, acids and bases.

This course is equivalent to Chemistry 12. This is a physical chemistry course concentrating on reaction kinetics, dynamic equilibrium, solubility equilibria, acids, bases and salts and oxidation-reduction. The laboratories will illustrate and reinforce topics covered the lectures.

Meets the Physics 11 entrance requirement for BCIT programs with this requirement. This course is offered as an integral part of the Technology Entry program and is integrated with all other academic courses in this program. It is designed for those who have never taken a physics course in high school or elsewhere. Topics have been chosen to best meet the needs of BCIT programs in a variety of areas. It offers, at an introductory level, physics content and concepts related to mechanics (kinematics and dynamics), heat and electricity. Problem solving is stressed in lectures and proper data collection and report writing methodology is emphasized in the accompanying laboratory activities. Prerequisites: MATH 0007

This course meets the Physics 12 entrance requirement for BCIT programs with this requirement. This course offers a continuation of an introduction to Physics and its basic principles. Emphasis is placed on good problem solving techniques and practical applications relevant to BCIT programs. Topics include one and two dimensional kinematics, vectors, dynamics, work and energy, circular motion and gravitation, one and two dimensional linear momentum, static translational and rotational equilibrium, electrostatics, direct current circuits, magnetism and electromagnetic induction.
