The Technology Entry (TE) program is for individuals who want solid academic preparation before entering a BCIT Technology program. It is appropriate for individuals who need to improve their skills in core areas such as communication, mathematics, chemistry, and physics in order to meet program prerequisites. It is also suitable for those who need B.C. educational equivalents to supplement credentials earned in other school systems.

The TE program is a 15-week, full-time day school program that offers a broad introduction to post-secondary education in a focused but welcoming atmosphere. An introductory course in computer applications, a learning skills seminar and an overview of technology options and related careers round out the traditional academic subjects.

Some programs have prerequisite requirements not offered by the TE program, such as biology courses. Please check the BCIT website for individual program prerequisites, entrance requirements, and timelines.

Would you like to hear about the Technology Entry program from two of our graduates? In the video below, Jaimie and Travis speak about their experiences in Technology Entry and how it prepares them to enter one of BCIT's receiving programs:

Program Entry

Technology Entry students talk about why they chose the program.

Application processing

This program is open to applications beginning:

  • November 1st* for the Fall (September intake)
  • November 1st* for the Winter (January intake)

*or next business day

Entrance requirements

Applicants must meet all entrance requirements and will be accepted on a first qualified basis as long as space remains. Applications are considered for a specific intake.

Chemistry and Physics Technology Entry (TE) course offerings:

All TE students are required to take both chemistry and physics. Your follow up program choice, TE term and science prerequisites will determine your TE science course grade level:

  • Fall term (September intake): Only grade 11 level chemistry and physics are offered. The grade 11 level science courses do not require additional science entrance requirements.

  • Winter term (January intake): Both grade 11 and grade 12 level chemistry and physics are offered. Applicants requiring grade 12 level chemistry and physics courses must meet the following additional entrance requirements:

    • Chemistry 11 (60%)
    • Physics 11 (60%)

  • Note: Applicants to the Technology Entry program should be aware of their desired follow-up program's science prerequisites and choose to register in either grade 11 or grade 12 level physics and chemistry accordingly. There is not an option to combine the grade 11 and 12 sciences. Space is extremely limited in the grade 12 science stream. It is strongly recommended that applicants requiring Physics 12 and/or Chemistry 12 apply as early as possible to the January intake.

Testimonial

"Technology Entry was a good starting point for me. I had relatively no post-secondary education. Tech Entry taught me basic study skills, especially how to study for tests. I was also able to gain a foundation in the science techniques I would need in Civil Engineering Technology." Ian Rodriguez

Testimonial

"When I applied to BCIT, I had a very poor scholastic record. Without the Tech Entry program I would have required several years of upgrading at night schools before I could have fulfilled the requirements to enter the diploma program. I would like to thank BCIT for giving me the opportunity to prove myself through the TE and diploma courses as well as teaching me how to learn." Mark Jakeway
