The purpose of this course is to analyze and deploy visual communication techniques to solve communication problems. Parallels are drawn between verbal and visual rhetoric and tone, and students are taught the basics of visual brainstorming, developing and refining visual ideas. Course material includes effectively selecting and implementing colour, typefaces, images, and layout techniques in order to effectively convey complex messages using visual media.
To take this course, students must have completed or be currently taking Adobe Illustrator MAC 1 (MDIA 1160) and must have completed their technical elective (COMP 1850 or COMP 2010 or COMP 2369 or COMP 2256). Students must also have one of the following English requirements, as well as intermediate word processing skills in the latest version of MS Word for Windows: 1) English 12 "67%" (C+) or equivalent (refer to BCIT's Admission page); 2) COMM 0015 score of 70 or better.
