Presents both traditional and contemporary perspectives of modern management examining management and management roles in teams, projects, departments and the organization as a whole. Strategic planning, operational planning, leading, organizing and controlling for performance will be addressed. BUSA 2100 - Principles of Management
A study of the basic concepts of the management process: planning, organizing, staffing, leading and controlling. Integrated with the concurrent first-term courses and using the case-study method, it creates opportunities for the students to develop analytical, problem-solving, teamwork and communications skills, by analysing and presenting solutions to typical business problems. Topics covered include: structuring organizations, decision making and an introduction to production, human resources, controlling and strategic and tactical planning. Prerequisites: ORGB 1100

Provides an in-depth review of the skills required for a high performing team. This hands-on course allows students to participate in each of the stages of team development. This is a research and project course where students will prepare a business proposal for a new company that wishes to market products or services on the Internet. A complete strategy for online business will include market research, a cost-benefit analysis, coverage of technical and operational issues such as logistics and promotion, legal requirements, and human impact issues. BUSA 3500 - Management Science
Introduces quantitative methods. Students will be introduced to some of the more common techniques in the Management Science field and will use microcomputer software to solve problems. Analyses business strategy formulation to give the student practical experience and confidence in handling complex business situations. HRMG 3010 - Human Resource/Industrial Relations Management
Introduces the major human resource and industrial relations processes and issues in the BC workplace with emphasis on the value of the worker and the overall effectiveness of modern human resource management. The course develops an understanding of the skills and abilities required for effective interviewing, performance management, compensation reviews, labour contract negotiations, training and development programs, grievance and collective agreement administration. It also reviews relevant employment laws.

HRMG 3100 - Introduction to Human Resource Management
Designed for persons interested in management and/or supervision. It develops an understanding of significant human resource management processes and systems utilized in today's business and government organizations. Employment-related legislation and current human resource management issues are surveyed. Topics cover human resource management processes with some emphasis on practical application of the techniques studied. Prerequisites: BUSA 2100 and ORGB 1100

Develops an understanding of the significant human resource management programs and systems utilized in today's business and government organizations. HRMG 3205 - Labour Relations 1
A necessary skill set in today's world - designed for those involved in, or associated with labour relations as management or union. Covers the collective bargaining process and day-to-day contract administration. Related laws, typical contract clauses, grievance procedures, responsibilities of the supervisor and the shop steward, and current activities in the labour relations field. Students will learn to approach their responsibilities for matters covered by collective agreements with more confidence and expertise. Prerequisites: ORGB 1105 (3 Credits)

HRMG 4155 - Performance Management
This course is designed to enable students to explore effective processes and systems for managing performance at the individual, team and organization level. It will provide students with an understanding of the key role performance management plays in achieving corporate strategy and optimizing productivity. Within the scope of "managing performance" students will gain knowledge of how to measure and develop performance. Interactive opportunities will be provided to build skills needed to assist line managers in managing performance, including: establishing and communicating performance criteria; coaching for performance improvement; and conducting performance review discussions. This course will also examine the relationship between performance management and other HRM functions. Prerequisites: HRMG 3105 (3 Credits)

Organizational Behaviour
ORGB 2605 - Managing Organizational Change
This is an introductory course in Organizational Change. Students gain an understanding of the concept of change, the necessity for change and an awareness of the impact on change to organizations and individuals. The course also highlights the ways in which change can be successfully brought about in an organization and how to become a successful change agent. (3 Credits)

ORGB 5600 - Implementing Strategic Change
Extends analysis of human behaviour in the organization toward development of models in the decision-making process. The extended analysis will encompass the development or organizations toward open systems capable of effective responses of change. Students learn how to apply behavioural models in bringing about change. Prerequisite: Acceptance into the Bachelor of Business Administration program plus BUSA 6800.
