Biotechnology
BIOT 4001 - Biotechnology for Business

This course is a survey of the business of biotechnology. This will include the basic biological principles necessary to understand the science of the technologies that make up the biotechnology tool box. Technology Topics include: fermentation, genetic engineering, monoclonal antibodies, cell culture, bioinformatics and enzyme technology. The course will explore the role of Biotechnology in advancements of products and services in health care, agriculture, environment, and marine. The ethical implications of these technologies will also be discussed.

Prerequisite: Admission to the Bachelor of Business Administration program and permission from the Program Head. BUSA 6910 can be taken concurrently.

ECON 5460 - Environmental Economics

This course explores the relationship between economic activity and the environment. The objective is to familiarize students with the causes, consequences and possible solutions to local and global environmental issues. Students will become familiar with the techniques used by governments and businesses in determining the economic impact of various environmental policies. Building on economic concepts from introductory economics, this course will look at a variety of environmental problems and possible policy solutions. Topics covered include externalities, public goods, cost-benefits analysis, environmental degradation and policies for environmental regulation. The course will also cover global environmental issues such as ozone depletion and biodiversity. Students will be required to apply the tools learned in their economics, accounting and finance classes to carry out environmental valuations and cost-benefit calculations. Prerequisites: ECON 2100 and ECON 2200

ECON 5570 - Financial Markets, Banking and the Macro-Economy

This course emphasizes the economic way of thinking by developing a unifying framework to study money, banking, and financial markets. This analytic framework uses a few basic economic concepts to organize your thinking about the determination of asset prices, the structure of financial markets, bank management and the role of money in the economy. Prerequisite: Acceptance into the Bachelor of Business Administration program or permission from the Program Head.

Examines the use of economics, decision theory and business problems. Uses case studies to accounting/finance tools by managers facing various problems. LIBS 7010 - The Literature of Leadership: Reading Leadership Texts, Paradigms and Strategies

In this course students will read and analyse works offering various perspectives on the theme of leadership, including artistic, military, political, social, and business texts. Readings will be drawn from different literary genres, cultures and historical periods. Students will critically read and analyse both substantive literary texts (e.g. novels) and key excerpts from classic texts. Film, multimedia and online texts may also be examined. In interrogating representations of leaders and leadership as expressed through the lens of literary works and various other discourses, students will not only enhance their critical reading and writing abilities, but also gain the means to interrogate the values and views of real leaders, past and present, noble and peer. Marketing Management
MKTG 5150 - International Marketing Management Strategies

This course prepares the student to be able to use global marketing management practices in a business environment. Different business concepts and marketing applications are covered, both in lectures and in lab examples. Students will examine current international marketing strategies used by both the Business to Consumer market and the Business to Business market. Using the foundations of traditional marketing , the student will apply new marketing solutions and tactics to enhance a business that functions in the increasing global market place. By critiquing various case studies, the student will be able to assess how a business can survive, and grow , as well as manage the pitfalls of this ever-changing global market place. Students are required to complete five in-lab case assignments and one final group project during this course. Using real life examples on practical international marketing planning and strategy, the student will have comprehensive coverage of the problems, issues confronting managers today as they seek to survive and to grow in the international market. Emphasis will be placed on designing strategies for global competition, global expansion, global marketing, organizing and controlling global marketing operations. There will be coverage of environmentalism, ethics, electronic and internet commerce as well as multilateral trade relations. Prerequisite: Admission to the Bachelor of Business Administration program or permission from the Program Head.

OPMT 5751 - Math Models for Business

Presents a second course in the application of statistical methods to business problems. The course will provide detailed theoretical understanding and practical applications of two of the most commonly used techniques in mathematical modeling Linear Regression and Time Series Analysis. You will learn how to view business situations as mathematical models and formulate the equations required for the model solution. Extensive lab work using computer software will lead to theoretical solutions. You will then learn how to interpret these solutions as a guide to practical management action.
