The strength of BCIT Recreation Services is our personnel, especially our part time staff and volunteer Recreation Council. We hire over 30 part time students to assist us in the smooth operation of our facility and our programs, as well as over 70 students to assist us with promotion through our Recreation Council.
Volunteer opportunties at Recreation Services
We offer a variety of recreation programs, which enhance the student education experience. With the wide variety of programs that the BCIT Recreation Services offers, we need students like you to get involved and spread the word to your fellow students about the programs and services we offer.
Become a Rec Rep
Recreation Services is looking for students who are enthusiastic and interested in promoting recreation activities. The Recreation Council has representatives from both the Trades and Technology areas. If you are looking to have fun and meet new people, become a recreation representative.
Duties include:
- Sign on to Twitter (@bcitrecservices), Facebook (BCIT Rec Services) to get the latest update on what is happening at Rec Service.
- Provide the latest program and facility information to students in your program.
- Encourage your classmates to participate in recreation programs.
- Offer any suggestions for new programs or activities.
It's a great opportunity to:
- Show potential employers that you are involved in your BCIT school community
- Meet new people and network with other technologies and trades.
- Improve your public speaking skills.
- Enjoy information luncheons and participate in recreation council socials.

Employment opportunties at Recreation Services
We are looking for outgoing, committed, customer service driven and fitness orientated students to join our exciting team at BCIT Recreation Services.Working for Recreation Services will add value to your time at BCIT by becoming an active participant in your school community. Earn money and network with other students and staff from all areas of the campus. Hours of work are scheduled around your class timetable and we encourage you to place your studies as your first priority at BCIT.
BCIT Recreation Attendant
When working as a BCIT recreation attendant you will be trained and work in the following areas.
Equipment Office Front Desk
Duties:
- Reception, cashier, and general office duties
- Membership and program registration
- Cleaning and maintaining laundry service
- Assisting with Intramural Sports
Qualifications:
- Customer service and excellent communication skills.
- Able to work independently and prioritize tasks.
Assets:
- Reception and/or cashier experience
- Experience with Microsoft Access
Intramurals and Scorekeeping
Duties:
- Ensure games are played fairly and safely
- Report any game incidents in writing
- Operate score clocks
- Track game scores and penalties
- Game sheets and submitting weekly results
Qualifications:
- Suitable knowledge of specific sport rules
- Good interpersonal skills and assertiveness
- Current First Aid – Level A
- Good penmanship
- Reliable and good communication skills

Trainers and instructors
We are constantly looking for personal trainers, fitness instructors and people with special skills who wish to introduce students to new activities. If you have a special skill, wish to lead a fitness class or join our team of trainers then contact Recreation Services, especially if you have BCRPA certification.
