Do you have a BCIT story that may be newsworthy? Telling BCIT stories through the media is a key strategy to increase BCIT's reputation and strengthen our brand. The media relations team uses a number of communications tools to tell our story, from traditional news releases to the corporate website.
All BCIT contact with media is coordinated centrally through our department, where we take incoming requests for media interviews, as well as distribute BCIT information and stories to reporters. We can work with you to get news coverage, become known as an expert in your field media can interview on breaking news, or provide media relations training for your department.
If you have any questions or concerns related to media, please contact Dave Pinton, Acting Director, Marketing and Communications, and Acting Manager, Media Relations at 604.451.6808.
News Releases
In order to effectively promote your story, we require as much lead time as possible to work with you to write and develop your news release, as well as determine whether or not your news should be told at a media conference or event. We appreciate a minimum of three weeks notice for news releases whenever possible so that we have ample time to prepare and distribute your news. We also understand that news can happen quickly, and we will work with you to get the word out.
To request that we prepare a news release, please contact Dave Pinton with the following information about your story:
Please be sure to include your name, title and contact info in your request. We will review your information and work with you to develop an effective media relations strategy.
Update
We produce the BCIT Update Blog. To submit a news item or photo, please contact the editor, Andrea Bellamy.
Media Training
If you would like individual or group training on how the media works, what to expect from reporters, or would like to test your interview skills in person or on camera, we can coordinate a session and tailor the topic to suit your needs. Training sessions are also a great way to work as a team with others in your area to identify positive and newsworthy BCIT stories. Please contact Dave Pinton to arrange your training session.
BCIT Experts
BCIT has experts in a wide range of subject areas from cyber security to river conservation, that are ready to talk to the media. Our online media experts database is now launched and growing, so that when news breaks, reporters will have easy access to BCIT experts who can speak about a current issue or trend. If you would like to be included on this list, please contact Dave Pinton for more information. Please note, all experts will undergo basic media training, including interview training, and a short orientation before their information is made available to reporters.
