Important Information for Lab Software Requests

Computer Lab Software Request Process Improvement

Our goal is to fulfill all computer lab software requests in a timely manner and provide a stable software installation environment. To accomplish this goal, in consultation with the Computer Lab Advisory Council (CLAC), IT Services will be implementing changes to the software request and installation processes. This will be a multi phased approach which will begin with the first phase for the September 2011 term start up.

Overview of Important Dates and Deadlines (Phase I, 2011):

June 3rd - All software requests are due for the Fall term for each course

June 24th - Software media and licensing information is due. If you do not have it, you will need to communicate this to IT Services

June 24th - A software deployment plan will be published on the IT Services website

August 13th - Software will be deployed to the labs

August 15th – 26th Software will be available for Instructor testing

August 15thSeptember 23rd Software defects will be resolved

September 19th - September 23rd Late request will be installed with Dean’s approval

September 23rd – Jan 3rd No change window

October 5th - The software deployment plan will be updated

Detailed Explanation

Software Requests: To avoid classroom interruptions, all software required for August to December time frame must be requested by the first Friday in June. This year it is June 3rd.

Late Requests: All requests received after June 1st will require your Dean’s approval to escalate the late request. IT Services will be installing the late requests the week of September 19th.

Deployment Plan: A deployment plan will be published on the IT Services website based on the information received by June 24th, and updated on October 5th.

Testing: We will have your software installed and deployed so you can test it for any problems from August 15th to the 26th.

Defects Resolved: IT Services will resolve all software defects by September 23rd.

Processing Late Requests: IT Services will start processing all late requests that have been approved by your Dean, the week of September 19th.

No Change Window: To maintain image stability there will be no changes to the images after September 23rd till the end of the term.
