When You Arrive in Vancouver
When you arrive at Vancouver, BCIT can support you through:
Planning for transportation from the airport:
Will you require transportation from the airport to where you will be living in Vancouver once you arrive?
- BCIT can arrange for a Canada Vancouver Homestay agent to welcome you at Vancouver International Airport (YVR) and provide transportation to your new home
- If you plan on visiting home during your stay at BCIT, we can also provide transportation to the airport
- Students will be required to apply and pay a fee for this service

Providing new student orientation:
- Every new student at BCIT is offered an orientation
- This includes a campus tour, an introduction to student life and leisure activities, the Library and the Bookstore, receiving your BCIT ID card etc.
- We also offer advice and tips on how to succeed and enjoy your education

Applying for medical insurance:
All students require medical insurance when living in Canada and studying at BCIT. Medical treatment and hospital care is not free in Canada.
- We can arrange your application for medical coverage through a reputable and local organization while you await your eligibility for BC Medical
- After residing in the province of British Columbia for over three months you will be eligible for the Medical Service Plan (MSP) of British Columbia, a government-funded program
- You may purchase Canadian medical insurance from your home country
- You must provide proof of medical insurance upon arriving to Canada and BCIT
- Alternatively, you may purchase Basic Medical Insurance for a maximum of three months.
