BCIT's Employee Excellence Awards acknowledge the effort and contribution made by members of our community toward fulfilling BCIT’s goals and values. Recognize the actions of those who improve our workplace and enhance BCIT’s community.
Nominations for all categories are accepted by BCIT staff, students, managers, Advisory Committee members, industry partners, or anyone else who believes a BCIT employee or Department is deserving of one of the following awards.
Winners of an Employee Excellence Award are invited to celebrate their accomplishments at the annual recognition lunch, where they are presented with their gift and Award Certificate.
Award Luncheon
The Employee Excellence Award luncheon will be on May 9, 2012 from 12:00pm to 2:00pm in Town Square A and B.
Awards
Individual extra mile award
The Individual Extra Mile Awards is presented to four individuals who exceed the needs of BCIT and its community.
The winner of the Individual Extra Mile Award receive $1,000.
Nominations are adjudicated by a committee consisting of representatives from each of BCIT's employee groups.
Departmental extra mile award
The Departmental Extra Mile Award is presented to a department that has exceed expectations and which goes the extra mile on a regular basis.
The winner of the Departmental Extra Mile Award receives $1500.
Nominations are adjudicated by a committee consisting of representatives from each of BCIT's employee groups.
Teaching excellence award
The Teaching Excellence Award is presented to an Instructor from each of BCIT's schools, who exemplifies teaching Excellence in their field.
The winners of the Teaching Excellence Award receive $1,000. In addition to the annual luncheon, instructors are also recognized at Spring Convocation.
Nominations are adjudicated by a Committee organized by each School.
Applied research award
The Applied Research Award is presented to an individual or group of BCIT employees who have made an outstanding contribution in terms of advancing knowledge, economic and/or societal well-being, through the development, application and/or implementation of technology.
The winner(s) of the Applied Research Award receives $1,000 for professional development purposes.
Nominations are adjudicated by the Research Award Committee.
Leadership award
The Leadership Award is presented to four BCIT employee who demonstrate exceptional leadership qualities.
The winners of the Leadership Award receive a $1000 gift certificate.
Nominations are adjudicated by a committee consisting of representatives from each of BCIT's employee groups.
Team effort award
The Team Effort Award is presented, to groups, task teams or committees that have made a significant contribution to BCIT's business processes, student success or employee morale.
The winners of the Team Effort Award will attend lunch with the President, receive $1000 and recognized with a plaque at the employee awards annual luncheon.
Nominations are adjudicated by a committee consisting of representatives from each of BCIT's employee groups.
Employee credentials
All employees who attain new credentials deserve a pat on the back for their commitment! If you or one of your co-workers has achieved a new credential, any kind of credential, in the past year (2010-2011), submit the following information on the nomination form:
- name of the person,
- the credential,
- the institution that granted it, and the
- date it was achieved.
All employees whose names are submitted will be recognized in a future issue of Update and potentially in their local newspapers.

Books or published papers
All employees who have published books or papers deserve recognition for their achievement! If you or one of your co-workers has published a book or paper in the past year (2010-2011), submit the following information on the nomination form:
- name of the person,
- the title of the published work,
- and the date it was published.
All employees whose names are submitted will be recognized in a future issue of Update and potentially in their local newspapers.
