BCIT's in-house temporary auxiliary support service requires
ASL Interpreters to provide high quality, visual communication for staff or students. BCIT's
Disability Resource Centre will provide an assessment of the language needs of the student and assist with the optimal linguistic equivalence.
Join our team and assist in creating a successful post-secondary experience for our students. Assignments can vary in duration and range from a few hours to many months long. Often the setting will be a combination of classroom and shop or lab time. Other settings may include field trips, work experience, interviews, counselling sessions, staff meetings and platform interpreting. BCIT follows the PCAS guidelines for teaming, preparation time, books, classroom materials and safety equipment. Qualifications
Requirements:
Flexibility and adaptability are crucial to being successful in this temporary environment. Positions may be located at any of BCIT’s campuses.
- Organized, committed and professional are highly desirable attributes for our Interpreting staff. Due to the technical nature of BCIT’s programs, some of the assignments can be challenging.
- Successful candidates must possess the following:
- Successful completion of a recognized Interpreter Training Program (ITP)
- Additional post-secondary education in an unrelated field is preferred
- Successful completion of the WTK and deemed competent in the Post-Secondary Screen is preferred
- Two years experience interpreting in a post-secondary setting is a highly desirable asset including working within an educational team
- Proven ability to maintain cooperative and mutually supportive relationships with students, teamers and other members of the Institute community is imperative
