Heat Savers

The Heat Savers Challenge

Heating is by far the largest contributor to BCIT's greenhouse gas emissions. Our goal is to help reduce energy consumption at BCIT by a target of 8% by the end of this fiscal year. Using less energy means we'll eliminate tonnes of our GHG emissions.

Get involved. Start by taking our short energy quiz to join the Heat Savers team.

BCIT faculty and staff: take the challenge now.

How we plan to do it!

Engage the community with the heat saver challenge, contests, and competitions.

Release the Heat Doctors to optimize heating systems in our trades buildings.

Give BCIT a degree by testing the feasibility of new room temperature guidelines.

Expand the summer boiler shutdown by starting it earlier and ending it later.

Swap out portable heaters to replace old ones with new energy efficient ones.

Life in Layers!

Make sure you have a sweater, vest or other appealing layers to optimize office comfort.

Space Heaters?

Space heaters are not an efficient means of heating your working area.

Most of the portable space heaters currently used at BCIT are 1,500 Watts convection heaters.  These heaters are the energy equivalent of taping fifteen 100-Watt light bulbs together and putting them under your desk to stay warm.

Students!

We’re counting on you, too.

Wear layers, and shed or add clothing, instead of opening your classroom windows!
