Heat Savers

Overview

Calling all faculty and staff! It’s time to harness your power, and combat wasted heat at BCIT.

You’ve seen it—heat escaping from our classrooms, offices, shops, and labs. Sometimes it gets out during the day, when the heat is on—yet the windows are open. Or, it gets out at night, through windows where blinds have been left up.

BCIT spends about $4,000,000 on energy every year—half for natural gas, half for electricity. In 2010, we also had to buy $279,000 in carbon offsets. If we save energy, we spend less, and we pollute less.

Take action!  Layer up and enlist to prevent wasted heat, reduce our natural gas and electricity use, and reduce emissions that cause climate change.

BCIT faculty and staff: take the challenge! Become an agent for sustainable change!

Take the Challenge

Summer Savings

BCIT reduces greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 80 tonnes of CO2 per year by shutting down the Burnaby campus central boiler during the summer months.

Listen to an interview with Marvin Rogers, the Director of Facilities Services at BCIT to learn more about this summer's shutdown.

BCIT's Green Team
