The Health Care Management department invites you to register for one or more of our courses for the Spring 2012 term.
Our programs and courses are specifically designed for working health professionals like yourself who have decided to further their education while remaining in the workforce. Through our programs you can take individual courses to suit your specific needs or take a set of courses to obtain a BCIT Certificate, an Advanced Specialty Certificate, or as part of a Bachelor degree. You can enhance your existing skills or develop new ones.
We have three 12 week distance education terms per year: Winter (January to April), Spring (April to July), and Fall (September to December). We invite you to register for one of more of our courses next term.If you are planning to start the HMGT 5800 Integrative Project in January 2012, please read about the project and request early access to the project course material.
Integrative Project / Applied Research Opportunity
Generally students do HMGT 5800 with their own organization as the client. However, there are opportunities where it will be possible for several students to do HMGT 5800 with BCIT as the client who will be providing the context for the practical problem or opportunity to be addressed. The BCIT Technology Centre, in consultation with Health Care Management has involved students in applied research projects, funded by NRC-IRAP, in the areas of mobile handheld/tablet devices, Lab Information Systems (LIS), Clinical Information Systems, and Interprofessional Practice. BCIT conducts applied research to enhance the learner experience and advance the state-of-practice. If you are interested in doing a project with BCIT, notify the program head.
To ensure that the courses you are taking will be applied towards a credential you must apply for Program Approval. It is best to apply for Program Approval after you complete your first course. If you have already taken more than one course, you can still apply for approval.
When students first learn about the program, they usually get in touch with the Program Head to discuss the program and the learning opportunity. If the program head verifies that you meet the department entrance requirements, and sends you a response (e.g., by email or telephone), it is to let you know that you are eligible to take courses within the department.
If you decide to complete an entire program of study, you need to declare your program of study and outline the courses you intend to complete to meet the program requirements. This declaration process is also an opportunity for you to apply for transfer credit.
When you do not declare your program, you are considered a student with undeclared status. After declaring your program, you have a declared status.
At BCIT, you declare your program by applying for Program Approval. Program Approval ensures that BCIT is aware of your intent to complete a program as it is outlined in your Program Approval Letter. BCIT continuously reviews programs and implements changes based on industry and market trends. Program Approval guarantees that credit for courses which are a part of your approved program will be honoured despite subsequent changes to program requirements. We are able to grant Program Approval for Health Care Management Level 1, Health Care Management Level 2, and Health Care Quality Management. Getting program approval does not prevent you from changing your educational plans or taking courses outside the program.
See the registration and program completion checklist for instructions.
