Harassment & Discrimination

Policies & Guidelines

BCIT’s Policy on Harassment and Discrimination is based on the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedom, The Canadian Human Rights Act and The British Columbia Human Rights Act.

Human rights legislation is considered quasi-constitutional. The effect of quasi-constitutional status is that this legislation supersedes all other legislation at the Federal, Provincial or Municipal level. As well, the human rights legislation cannot be overridden by local by-laws or institutional policy.

Harassment and discrimination are serious breaches of human rights – the legislated basis of all levels of government.

BCIT, the Staff Association, the BCGEU Instructional and Support Units, and the Student Association do not tolerate harassment and discrimination.

Please see BCIT’s Student Judicial Affairs website for more information on student non-academic misconduct.
