Full-Time Funding :: Course Load Criteria
BCIT's Minimum Full-Time Course Load Requirements
When applying for financial assistance, it's important to understand the difference between "minimum full-time course-load" (60%) and "full-time course load" (100%).
- "60% of a course load" is the minimum number of credits required to apply for full-time assistance, for a specific number of weeks. Students who take student loans with a 60% course load cannot withdraw from or fail even 1 course, or they will be reported to the ministry as having withdrawn or been unsuccessful.
- "100% of a course load" describes being registered in all required courses for the term in a full-time program at BCIT. The number of credits over weeks is above the minimum, which means that if a student withdraws or fails one or more of the courses, they may still be able to maintain the minimum 60% , and be considered successful in that term for student loan purposes.
- "40% of a course load" is considered the minimum for students with approved permanent disability status.
Note: Students are advised to contact our office before applying for course credit exemption. Being granted exemption will reduce the number of registered credits, which could cause you to fall below the minimum 60%.
This table outlines BCIT's "minimum full-time course load" (60%) requirements:
| No. of actual weeks* in term | Minimum credits required |
|---|---|
