Fee Deferrals

A Tuition Fee Deferral is a request to extend your day-school tuition fee payment deadline date. Note that if your request is approved, the fees must still be paid, but at a later date. Tuition fee deferrals are only approved for eligible applicants, defined as follows:

Full-time student eligibility requirements

Students in full-time programs must meet all of the following three criteria to be eligible for a fee deferral:

  1. The BCIT Admissions Office must have notified you of your acceptance or provisional acceptance and start date at BCIT, and
  2. Your Commitment Fee must be paid to BCIT before your tuition fee deferral application can be considered, and
  3. You must be assessed and approved for Government student loans (either through BC or another province) or
  4. If paying from another source such as EI, RRSP, RESP or scholarship, provide proof of funds.

Part-time student eligibility

Students attending an eligible program in a full-time course load comprised of part-time studies courses, must meet all of the following three criteria to be eligible for a fee deferral:

  1. You must submit a Specific Course Completion Contract [PDF, 106 KB] form to the Student Financial Aid and Awards office outlining your program and courses, and
  2. If your tuition fee deferral application is approved, you must pay $50 of the tuition for EACH course as a non-refundable Commitment Fee in order for the remaining tuition to be deferred, and
  3. You must be assessed and approved for Government student loans (either through BC or another province) or
  4. If paying from another source such as EI, RRSP, RESP or scholarship, provide proof of funds.

When to apply

Tuition fee deferrals are for one level of study at a time.

BCIT policy requires a student entering a full-time program to pay their first term's tuition fees in full, 60 days prior to the first day of classes. A student accepted less than 60 days before the first day of classes is required to pay tuition fees in full upon acceptance.

Students enrolling in part-time studies courses are required to pay their tuition at the time of registration.

Most day-school returning students returning have fees due at the end of the first week of classes; therefore tuition fee deferrals are not needed unless your government student assistance is delayed.

Please refer to the full-time Fee Schedules on BCIT's website and check with Cashiers at 604-432-8732 to confirm the date your fees are due.
