Learning Options

Flexibility in learning

The BCIT School of Energy strives to provide a range of learning options so that you can fit your education into your life. We offer many options, including:

Full-time programs

Most of our certificate and diploma programs are offered full-time so that you can complete the program in one or two years of study. Full-time studies also allow you to quickly gain a deep understanding of your discipline, because you take a number of subjects at once, all of which are relevant to your area of concentration.

Part-time programs

Our degree programs are offered part-time, on weeknights and weekends, so you can continue in your job. A relevant diploma or equivalent is a prerequisite to entering a degree program, so you will already have a good general background in your field of study.

See a listing of our part-time studies programs under Areas of Study.

Contact the part-time studies coordinator for more information.

Distance education

Some of our programs offer distance education courses. In some cases, a course requires some on-campus tutorials, field trips, or attendance at other learning venues. Because of the high degree of hands-on laboratory work required for our programs, none are available entirely through distance education.

Cooperative education

Some of our diploma and trade programs offer a cooperative work option after the first year of study, allowing you to gain valuable on-the-job experience between study sessions. Find out more about Cooperative Education at BCIT.

Apprenticeship programs

Apprenticeship means that you work and are paid while you learn. You can develop a high degree of competence in a trade, through on-the-job training, work experience, and formal classroom technical training. Find out more about Apprenticeship Training at BCIT. The apprenticeship programs are listed under Areas of Study.

Industry services and corporate training

The School of Energy will provide custom training for organizations that wants to upgrade the skills and knowledge of their staff. We can train people at your location or on BCIT premises, according to your needs. Contact Industry Services and Corporate Training.
