Attending Convocation

To be eligible to attend the graduation ceremony, a student must have successfully completed all requirements for a diploma/certificate, or bachelor's degree. No exceptions will be made.

In addition, graduates who have any outstanding financial obligations to BCIT at the point of program completion will not be permitted to attend Convocation and cross the stage.

If you have any questions regarding your graduation status, please call Student Records at 604-432-8498.

If you are a full-time student in your last graduating level, to apply to attend the graduation ceremony please fill in the Application to Attend Convocation for Full-time Students.

If you are a part-time studies student who has completed all the required courses for your program, you must submit an Application for BCIT Credential [PDF 501 KB] to the Student Records office by the time indicated on the application. You are not required to submit the "Application to Attend Convocation".

PLEASE NOTE:  Convocation is open to graduates of programs with a minimum of 45.0 credits or programs at an advanced level beyond the diploma level.

Graduation Attire

All students participating in convocation ceremonies are required to wear BCIT graduation regalia. (Approved cultural attire exempted. Contact Elizabeth_Drews@bcit.ca for more information.)

Rental of graduation regalia (gown, hood, cap and tassel) is provided through Gaspard & Sons at a cost of $40. Reserve your regalia online through Gaspard & Sons starting in late April. Students wishing to purchase graduation regalia can do so through buildagrad.ca.

Valedictorians

Valedictorians represent their graduating class at their convocation by delivering a valedictory speech during the ceremony. Nominees must demonstrate involvement with BCIT and the community (e.g. volunteering, peer tutoring, Student Association). Preference will be given to nominees who have maintained a minimum GPA of 80% throughout their program.

To apply, or to nominate a valedictorian for Convocation, please fill in the Valedictorian Nomination Form and submit it to Special Events, SE42 210, or by email Elizabeth_Drews@bcit.ca. Deadline to submit a nomination is May 18, 2012.
