forest management option

The Forest Management (FM) Option will prepare graduates for a wide range of occupations in forestry.  It is expected that this program option will be accredited by the Association of British Columbia Forestry Professionals (ABCFP) and graduates will be eligible to enroll to become Registered Forest Technologists (RFT). The legislated professional scope of practice for RFTs translates into improved career opportunities for graduates of this program. Recent data concludes there is a projected shortage of RFTs within British Columbia in the coming years.

Two features unique to this diploma option are the flexibility to choose areas of specialization within the four scopes of forestry practice, and the ability to choose four credits of general electives from a wide range of BCIT courses to suit the students’ career interests and professional development.

The Forest Management diploma option is expected to maintain the same laddering opportunities as the former Forest Ecosystem Technology diploma. This includes post diploma transfer agreements to degree programs at all the Canadian universities with undergraduate forestry degree programs, as well as the resource management degrees at Thompson Rivers University and Royal Roads University.
