overview

Companies and government agencies are experiencing increasingly stringent standards for environmental protection and demands to apply the principles of sustainable resource management. As the boundaries blur between urban and rural areas, there is increased competition for land and resources, questions of resource ownership, concerns for community protection, and issues related to the provision of services, power and natural resources for the rapidly expanding urban population.   All of these issues require employees to use a broad range of resource management skills in both urban and rural settings.  The Sustainable Resource Management (SRM) program is designed to provide you with the skills necessary to
  • Apply the principles of sustainable resource management
  • Work in technical jobs related to sustainable resource management industries, government agencies and local government
  • Apply the principles of environmental ethics and professionalism to day-to-day activities

The SRM program is offered on a part-time studies basis, so you can take the program at your own pace, (subject to time limits set by BCIT policy).  Not sure about your long term career?  There are a number of program options, Natural Resource Certificate, Forest Management Diploma, Environmental and Community Planning Diploma and a range of additional course electives within each option for you to choose from.

In creating these new and exciting programs, BCIT has consulted with a variety of stakeholders and related groups. See what they have to say about our programs.
