BCIT's Piping department has prepared a number of computer based training (CBT) software programs available for purchase. The demos on this page allow you to try before you buy.
Note: Demos are in self-extracting WinZip (EXE) format. If you need, read the instructions [PDF, 66KB] for accessing these files.
This easy to use, highly interactive CBT helps you understand the factors involved in troubleshooting both electrical and mechanical components of hydronic heating systems.
This program is endorsed by the RHWHA of British Columbia.
Demo [EXE, 4MB]
This interactive CBT tutorial/simulation is designed to teach students how to test and troubleshoot different assemblies. It also provides instructors with a practical visual aid.
One obstacle faced with cross connection control is showing the internal operation of working and non-working valves. The program allows students to assess both functioning and malfunctioning valves and significantly reduces actual lab time required.
The user-friendly structure teaches students to test and troubleshoot various assemblies, based on the University of Southern California (USC) test procedures. Components include sections on:
Programs for both three and five valve differential pressure gauges are available:
3 Valve Demo [EXE, 5.8 MB]
5 Valve Demo [EXE, 5.2 MB]
This program helps you understand the factors involved in creating stable natural gas flames on an atmospheric burner. Topics include:
Questions with detailed feedback, animations, and motion video facilitate your learning. The comprehensive self-test provides feedback on topics to review.
The program completes your learning with a simulation that allows you to make adjustments to a simulated burner in order to establish a stable flame.
Demo [EXE, 11MB]
This program discusses appliances and service regulators, which are used to regulate gas flow. For both regulators, topics include:
Questions with detailed feedback and animations encourage you to learn. The comprehensive self-test provides feedback on which topics you can review.
Demo [EXE, 2.2 MB]
This program is designed so you can understand and explain how forces at work inside a pressure reducing valve (PRV) react on the internal components to provide pressure regulation. Topics include:
The program prompts you with questions that provide detailed feedback and animations. The comprehensive self-test provides feedback on your learning.
