Math 11/12 Testing

Math competency testing

Applicants lacking BC Math 11 or Math 12 prerequisites for most engineering technology or health sciences programs at BCIT may opt to challenge those prerequisites by writing a BCIT Mathematics Competency Test. Currently, there is a charge for these tests.

Important Note: The Trades Learning Centre offers the Trades Pretest for trades programs.

For Competency Testing times from September to June, individual appointments for tests can be arranged and further information obtained by calling David Sabo at 604.432.8698. Usually with a few days notice, we can arrange a test for any convenient weekday time.

If you choose to take the mathematics competency test

• Obtain a paper copy of the BCIT Mathematics Competency Test authorization form, available from the Admissions Department via email or from Program Advising.

On the day of the test, you will need to bring the following:

• the completed paper copy of the BCIT Mathematics Competency Test authorization form.
• proof of payment (cashier's stamp on Test Authorization form or receipt)
• calculator with standard mathematical functions (sin, cos, tan, square root, etc.) - no smart phones or computers.
• photo identification
• pens/pencils

Note: the test is closed book so  notes, books, formula sheets or electronic dictionaries are not permitted.
