Each day of the Academy, you'll gainn new hands-on experience with a different aspect of forensic investigation. You'll learn more about:

Fingerprinting: You will learn how to dust for prints on all types of surfaces, take copies of your own fingerprints for comparison and learn how fingerprint matching is done. |

Photography: Using digital SLR cameras, you'll learn about the proper types of photographing methods used to document crime scenes and exhibits. |

DNA: Learn how DNA is used to match evidence left a crime scene with the criminals that left it. You will even have a chance to do a DNA extraction and see DNA! |

Knots: See how knots can actually tell you things about the people that tied them. You’ll be learning from a world renowned knot expert about what types of knots certain people will tie, and how to tell if someone was able to tie themself up on their own, or needed help. |

Trace Evidence: Learn how various types of trace chemical and fibre evidence are collected. You'll also try to find all the foreign objects in a mix of mystery compounds. |

Anthropology: Your skeleton actually has a lot to say about how you lived your life! You'll learn how the experts look at bones and use that information to find out how you lived and how you died. |
|
Video Analysis: You'll get to tour BCIT’s video surveillance system and see how close circuit cameras are everywhere, watching for illegal activities. |
|
Mock Crime Scene: Using all the skills mentioned and more, you'll take a walk in the shoes of a CSI agent and find out who murdered whom in a realistic mock crime scene. You'll be taking pictures, processing evidence, looking at DNA and examining fingerprints to solve a murder! |
