New Graphics Communications (GTEC) program
The aim of the Graphic Communications program (GTEC) is to prepare talented individuals with a solid foundation of education and technical training so that they have the vision and knowledge to lead the printing and publishing industry in Canada into the future.
The program focuses on:
- pre-press / press
- bindery and finishing
- management skills
- sales and marketing
- customer service
Specifically, the program:
- takes 2 years to complete, with student intakes beginning Sept 2006
- consists of four terms and two work experience opportunities
- has 118 credits
- leads to a Diploma in Graphics Communications
Full-time flex programs
New media design & web development (senior management certificate)
As the Media industry continues to expand and mature, so does the need for highly skilled and specifically trained designers for the Web and other interactive delivery channels. The New Media Design program includes web development, graphic arts, sound design, and video content for communication delivered through dynamic visual media.
The program focuses on:
- Web site development
- streaming video content
- interface and visual design
- interactive rich media
- DVD authoring
- motion graphics with dynamic content
Specifically, the program:
- takes 52 weeks to complete, with student intakes in October and April
- consists of four terms with breaks
- has 92 credits
- leads to a Senior Management Certificate
Digital animation program (certificate)
The Digital Animation program is an intensive one-year program that puts the emphasis on the art and craft of modeling, environmental landscapes, and animation while focusing on learning industry-standard software skills with high-end 3D software tools and techniques.
The program focuses on creating and producing an animated demo reel, with sound, for presentation to video gaming, film, television, and other 3D-based industries.
Specifically, the program:
- takes 52 weeks to complete, with student intakes in October and April
- consists of three terms with breaks
- has 69 credits
- leads to a Certificate
Design essentials (management certificate)
Offered jointly by BCIT Digital Arts and Emily Carr Continuing Studies, the Design Essentials program provides a unique educational opportunity that combines design theory with the practical technical skills required by Industry.
Graduates enter the work force with:
- a solid understanding of the creative process
- the ability to problem solve and meet clients’ expectations
- a strong skill set in computer applications that are a standard in today’s design fields
Challenging term projects help develop an understanding of the need to problem solve and produce high-quality work in a fast-paced, competitive environment while being self-directed and self-assessing work, with a keen eye for detail.
Some students successfully obtain employment prior to graduation. Many have gone on to successful careers at companies, while others opt to freelance.

Graphic Design (associate certificate) full-time 25 week format at the Downtown Campus
Graphic Design is an ideal career choice for people who wish to communicate creatively using the newest available technology and software applications such as InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Acrobat. The BCIT Graphic Design Associate Certificate program provides students with a core set of skills that combines software applications with design, practical color management and business skills. Students will design, create and edit electronic files creating an on-line and print portfolio.Part-time programs

The complete certificate program integrates Media Techniques for Business courses with those from other disciplines. The program offers a wide range of electives to address specific needs and goals.
The program allows laddering from the Desktop Publishing program into this one.
Graduates have an opportunity to specialize and develop professional portfolios.
Media techniques & marketing communications (management certificate)
The Media Techniques & Marketing Communications program is hands-on, designed to combine the strategic approach of marketing communications with the techniques of multimedia technology. Learning is skill-based, focusing on specialized training in media techniques and the components of promotional marketing.
The program is designed to support a career in the communications area of any business, from home-based to large corporate.
Medical office assistant (associate certificate)
The Medical Office Assistant program offers the necessary knowledge and skills for employment in the challenging health care environment.
The program develops oral and written communication, interpersonal and organizational skills, covering the application of anatomy and terminology in office practice, clinical procedures and medical transcription. There is a 60 hour practicum as the last course.
On-line program
Web technologies (management certificate)
This series of Web Technologies courses provides flexible, self-paced credit courses in Publishing on the Internet. The Certificate is designed as a part-time program for those who wish to obtain a BCIT credential but cannot commit to night school or a full-time program.
Courses are designed as a sequence of learning experiences, with one course building on previous ones. Courses are best taken in course number sequence.
