Commercialization Assistance Program

The CAP team offers support services to entrepreneurs and small to medium sized businesses (SMEs) and helps commercialize new services, products and processes.  Companies that benefit from the program are beyond the proof of concept stage and are developing, testing, validating or applying for IP on a pre-commercial product.

Qualified companies are encouraged to submit a Business Assistance Request to register and access:

• Technical Assistance – By connecting to BCIT Expertise, Facilities & External Resources
• Training & Events – Attend boot camps, specialized IP Strategy seminars, Testing & Validation seminars
• BCIT’s Commercialization Fund – Funding available to help BC businesses validate their new products before bringing it to the market.

Program Qualifications

• Company is registered in BC
• Developing a novel product or service
• Have a defined target market
• Understand the team and finances to complete the project
• Expect to launch product in the next 12 months
• Open to innovate ideas - Preference will be given to candidates who are recent graduates from B.C. universities or colleges (i.e. graduated within last two years)

The Commercialization Assistance Program can connect businesses to numerous internal BCIT resources. We can help connect you to BCIT student consulting groups, student work projects and subject matter experts within BCIT’s faculty. Most BCIT faculty members work in industry, have industry connections, and have specialized training and education in many industry sectors including:

BCIT Commercialization Fund

Qualified businesses may be eligible to receive financial assistance to offset commercialization costs through the BCIT Commercialization Fund. The fund covers professional services consulting expenses (lawyer, business consultant) and technical assistance and facilities (product design, prototyping, testing, verification, certification and demonstration).
