Joanne Stone-Campbell, Coordinator
Aanii!, my name is Iy'imelwit. l am a registered member of the Squamish Nation, and am originally from Michipicoten First Nation near Wawa, Ontario. I now live on the beautiful shores of West Vancouver. Some highlights of my career are being appointed as Justice of the Peace at age 22, winning the YWCA Women of Distinction Award in Education in 2008, and carrying the 2010 Olympic Torch. As Coordinator of Aboriginal Services, l want to provide a safe, supportive, and culturally relevant environment for students of Aboriginal ancestry to fulfil their dreams of a higher education. I want them to feel the pride and build bridges for our future generations. I also want to promote a greater awareness of Aboriginal issues, history, and traditions inside and outside BCIT. I believe we First Nations provide a rich, ancient, and authentic history in which all people can feel pride.

Derik Joseph, Advisor
Hello. My full name is Zaa Derik Gammel Joseph. I was born in Victoria and raised in the Tl’azt’en Nation Territory and Vancouver. My motivation comes from my upbringing around the value of life-long learning. As a father and part-time student working towards my MA, I can easily relate to balancing work, school, and family. My role is to provide a safe and productive environment for students, make available the resources on and off campus and provide opportunities to give back through initiatives such as the Peer Mentoring program. Aboriginal Services' Gathering Place is an environment for studying, to receive support and to meet each other. I am proud to stand beside Rose, Joanne, Celeste and Gerry to support BCIT's diverse Aboriginal student population.
