8 Questions with the Vancouver Sun’s Gillian Shaw

What’s it like being from the boomer generation working in the new media space?

It’s really exciting actually. Our business has changed so much since I started. I didn’t start when they had typewriters but close enough. At the time we had one-dimensional writing. We could write our stories and they would land on your doorstep

We want to say thanks to our current students for their submissions to the ‘What’s your it?’ contest. The contest was an opportunity for our students to record a video, draw a picture or write a story about their experience at BCIT. Our students are really busy folks so taking the time to submit to this contest is a BIG deal.

Our contest generated lots of interest and drew attention to BCIT’s 3blognights - thanks for that. Who knew it would also lead to a debate on how to get people to vote on a submission! We didn’t have any rules on how students could promote their submission and maybe we should have because some of the submissions appear to have an unfair advantage. We also heard that students would really appreciate an adjudication process – that is, the winner should be based on votes as well as the merits of the submission.

In the end, we are marching forward with the contest but to say thanks for all of the submissions, those that did not win one of the grand prizes will be entered to win one of five $50 gift cards. And by the way, we're not done! Keep following us online to see what’s next.

BIG? It sure is!
